D24 Siddhamsa — Learning and Conditional Dashas Applied to the native
A student asks for a mantra to help him retain what he hears in class; the answer is to look at charts, make predictions and be wrong. The rare conditional nakshatra dashas and their conditions — Chaturaseeti Sama (84 years) applies when the 10th lord is in the 10th — and why they are read exactly like Vimshottari. In D-24 the houses of occult knowledge are the 8th (the knowledge), 11th (learning it), 5th (scholarship) and 2nd (prediction); the Rasi 4th lord shows grasping and the 5th lord retention. The student's D-24 is then read: Atmakaraka Sun with the 11th lord in the 5th, a Raj Yoga on the 2nd–8th axis, the antardashas in which his predictions will come right, and which form of Krishna to pray to.
Key principle
You really learn when you put it to test, when you look at the charts. Only if you exercise will you find out what you don't know.
Example Chart
The Right Way to Learn Astrology
The class opens with a student's question. He has attended for six months, two hours every Sunday, with no time for anything outside the class. Everything is clear while the teacher speaks, but he cannot retain it. Is there a mantra that helps him assimilate?
The answer: "The mantra is: see some charts."
- Two hours a week gives background. You learn when you put it to the test.
- Students who bring charts to class with unexplained events are the ones exercising — and only by exercising do you find out what you do not know.
- When you listen, everything seems simple. When you apply it you ask: why Mars dasha, why not Mercury dasha? That is where learning starts.
- Rectification especially is tricky and needs hands-on experience.
- Find a couple more hours a week. Take your own chart, your wife's, your children's, parents', siblings' — somebody you know well.
- If the logic in class is not clear, stop the teacher. The gap between students widens as the class goes on.
"You really learn when you put it to test, when you look at the charts. Only if you exercise will you find out what you don't know."
Make predictions and be wrong:
- Ask people: "Did you get married between '98 and 2000?" They will probably say no — and that makes you look for the correct reason.
- "I went wrong. Everybody goes wrong. But unless you dive in, you will not learn."
Why the divisional charts make it simpler:
- Astrologers trained on Rasi + Navamsa + Vimshottari alone can still explain events, but they must bend over backwards with fancy logic.
- Many astrology books of the last 30 years are full of it. The logic cannot be replicated. A chart has six or seven planets that could give a result; after the event one of them is justified, but before the event you draw a blank.
- "He is aspecting the 7th house, so he gave marriage." What about the planets in the 7th, the 7th lord, the other planets aspecting it? That is five or six planets.
- Simplified tools force complicated logic. With all the tools Parashara gave, the logic is simple: skill → D-10, learning → D-24.
- Pick the right chart, the right dasha, and the right reference — for status and image, Arudha Lagna is the lagna.
- Students who started fresh are better off than those who must unlearn the Rasi–Navamsa–Vimshottari habit.
Remedies come from the natal chart: the Tithi Pravesha chart may show why learning rose this year, but a deity to pray to is chosen from the natal chart.
Conditional Dashas — The Full List
By default the nakshatra dasha is Vimshottari. Some charts meet a condition for a different nakshatra dasha, and then that dasha gives far better results. The rare ones named in class:
| Dasha | Condition |
|---|---|
| Dwisaptati Sama (72 years) | Lagna lord in the 7th, or 7th lord in lagna |
| Dwadasottari | Lagna in an amsa owned by Venus |
| Chaturaseeti Sama (84 years) | 10th lord in the 10th house |
| Shatabdika | Lagna vargottama (same sign in Rasi and Navamsa) |
| Shashtihayani / Shashti Sama (60 years) | Sun in lagna |
- Chaturaseeti: chatur = 4, aseeti = 80 → 84.
- Common ones: a couple of the conditional dashas apply to about half of all people. Use those only for specific purposes; you can stay with Vimshottari.
- Rare ones: when the condition is met, use the dasha.
- A student: "Saturn is in my lagna and he is the 7th lord." → Dwisaptati Sama should be used.
- The software's help text under each nakshatra dasha states its condition. Go through the list and learn the conditions.
The condition is only a condition. A student asks whether, with the 10th lord in the 10th, the 10th house becomes the centre for judging the dasha. No. The dasha is judged exactly like Vimshottari: from Lagna, from Moon, from Arudha Lagna.
All of them start from Moon's nakshatra. What changes is the planet assigned to the nakshatra:
- Purva Bhadrapada "owned by Jupiter" is true only in the Vimshottari scheme. The lord of the nakshatra itself is Ajaikapada (the teacher calls him a form of Vishnu).
- Uttara Bhadrapada's owner is Ahirbudhnya, one of the eleven Rudras, not Saturn.
- In another dasha scheme Purva Bhadrapada may be given to Moon.
27 vs 28 nakshatras:
- The 27-nakshatra scheme is mundane, physical.
- The 28-nakshatra scheme includes Abhijit (a part of Uttarashada) and works on the spiritual plane. Sarvatobhadra Chakra and other chakras use it.
- A couple of nakshatra dashas use Abhijit; most do not.
Do not get lost in the calculation. Take what the software gives, remember the conditions, pick the right dasha. The nakshatra dispositor has not been used in this class yet, so by every principle taught so far there is no difference in how the dasha is read.
"For all practical purposes, we are not using hundreds of dashas. We are using just one dasha."
D-24 (Siddhamsa) — The Chart of Advanced Learning
What D-24 Shows
- D-24 is the chart of learning — higher learning, anything like astrology.
- "D-20 is spiritual progress and D-24 is learning."
- Learning astrology is also spiritual progress, so D-20 and D-24 can be mixed. Here the class stays with D-24.
- The Rasi chart's 5th house shows scholarship, abilities, children and much else. For one area of knowledge — maths, engineering, the occult — go to D-24.
The Four Houses for Occult Knowledge in D-24
Students first answer "8th and 9th". The teacher rejects the 9th: it is dharma. Learning related to dharma is not astrology. Astrology is an occult subject, a Vedanga. For Vedangas the houses are the panaparas — 2, 5, 8, 11.
| House | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 8th | The occult knowledge itself — the hidden knowledge, all the insights you have. The pivotal house for astrology. |
| 11th | Learning occult knowledge — 4th (learning) from the 8th |
| 5th | Overall intelligence and scholarship; the enabler of all the learning |
| 2nd | Speech — the application; the prediction you make |
- If you only want to learn how astrology works, the 2nd is not that important. When you apply it, it is very important.
- If the 5th is not strong or not connected with the 8th and 11th, the occult learning may not turn into scholarship.
- If it is not linked with the 2nd, it may not be useful in prediction.
Atmakaraka and the 11th lord: occult knowledge like Jyotish comes from the atma. A link between the Atmakaraka and the 11th lord is a standard combination for becoming good at it.
"11th is learning occult knowledge and Atmakaraka is your soul. If there is a link between them, then there is a soul-level connection."
- Sun-sign astrology is superficial. To be exposed to Siddhamsa, D-10, the dashas and arudhas — knowledge that comes from the Maharshis — there must be something in the chart and purva karma. It does not come in one life.
Jupiter or Mercury in the 2nd or 8th is very good for astrology.
4th House vs 5th House in D-24
| House | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 4th | Grasping — the process of learning, assimilating, building the scholarship |
| 5th | Retention — the final scholarship you have |
Method: take the Rasi chart's 4th lord and 5th lord and see how they are placed in D-24.
- Rasi 5th lord badly placed in D-24 is not conducive to good learning. This is a general statement, not about any specific knowledge.
- Rasi 4th lord well placed in D-24 = grasps quickly. Badly placed = learns with difficulty.
- The same lords show which deity to worship to improve either area.
The teacher's own D-24: 4th lord Jupiter is in Pisces — own sign, in a kendra, Hamsa Yoga. The 5th lord is also well placed.
"You say one sentence, I can guess the next 10 sentences. I don't have to be challenged to learn."
D-24 Analysis for the Student's Chart
Sagittarius lagna. In the Rasi chart Mercury, lord of Virgo, is in Virgo in the 10th house → Chaturaseeti Sama dasha applies.
His D-24 (Pisces lagna):
- 2nd house Aries: Moon and Mars
- 5th house Cancer: Sun and Saturn
- 8th house Libra: Jupiter
- 11th house Capricorn: Mercury
Saturn Dasha — Is It Good for Learning Astrology?
He began Saturn mahadasha a couple of years before the class.
- Saturn = 11th lord in the 5th house → much learning of occult knowledge, converted to scholarship.
- Mercury = 4th lord in the 11th house → he too can give occult learning.
- Atmakaraka = Sun. He sits in the 5th house of scholarship with the 11th lord Saturn. This is the AK–11th lord link.
- Sun antardasha ran from January 2004 to September 2005. Saturn dasha, Sun antardasha brings the link between the 11th and the Atmakaraka to the fore.
"This is the igniter. This will ignite the soul-level desire for learning occult knowledge. That is why you are learning astrology during this period."
- Saturn and Sun also have an argala on the 2nd house (they are in the 4th from Aries), so good predictions are possible even now.
When the Predictions Will Come Right
- Who enables predictions? Moon or Mars. Moon is the 5th lord, bringing scholarship into the house of speech. Mars is the 2nd lord in the 2nd. They form a yoga there.
- September 2005 to February 2009 (Moon and Mars antardashas): the peak of his predictive ability within this dasha. 2007–2009 especially.
- The next mahadasha is Sun, then Moon. Moon dasha will be brilliant for him as an astrologer.
- Until then: take people's charts, make predictions, go wrong. "After September you will start getting it right."
- The "groove": once you are in it, what you say comes true. Outside it, either you have no time for practical astrology or you go wrong for reasons you cannot explain.
The Raj Yoga on the 2nd–8th Axis
- A student points out the Chandra-Mangala yoga. Its results come in Moon or Mars periods.
- 5th lord Moon and 9th lord Mars are conjoined in the 2nd; lagna lord Jupiter is opposite them in the 8th and aspects them (graha drishti, the 7th aspect).
- Lagna lord, 5th lord and 9th lord on the 2nd–8th axis — the axis of astrology.
- The 8th is not strong by itself. It matters because it holds lagna lord Jupiter, and Jupiter in the 2nd or 8th is very good for astrology.
- Raj Yoga in D-24 does not make a king. It makes a king in learning.
- He started only in May, with little background, on two hours a week. With this yoga he is still destined to be a good astrologer — a matter of a couple of years.
"If somebody with this kind of D-24 comes, you should jump and accept them as your student. You don't need thousands of students, you just need one or two really good students. They will keep the knowledge flowing from one generation to another."
Which Deity?
- Moon is the key: 5th lord, in the 2nd house, and dispositor of the 11th lord Saturn. He links the 11th, 5th and 2nd.
- Moon shows Krishna. Praying to Krishna converts the occult learning into scholarship and the scholarship into readings.
- Moon is in Aries, a Martian sign, with Mars. So not Krishna romancing the gopis. Krishna in the battlefield teaching Arjuna, or Krishna the warrior killing Sishupala. Hold that image when praying.
- Narasimha (Mars): later, once he is comfortable with the learning and concerned with the correctness of predictions. Mars is only the 2nd lord in the 2nd; he does not link the other houses.
Grasping vs Retention in His Chart
- Rasi 5th lord Mars is in moolatrikona (Aries) in D-24 → in general a very intelligent person. Once he learns, he learns perfectly.
- Rasi 4th lord Jupiter is in the 8th house of D-24, in an inimical sign → not the greatest learner. He learns through many steps, difficulty or pressure.
- The 8th is also the house of digging deep. He wants every detail, not a superficial understanding, and that slows him.
- The remedy for such a person — say a boy in high school who cannot grasp quickly: the planet is Jupiter, who can show Jagannatha, Dakshinamurti or Mahavishnu. Tell him to pray to Dakshinamurti.
