First Chart — Data and Questions

A student brings the chart of a man he does not know personally. The class is held in late 2011.

Birth data as given: August 27, 1977, 10:10 PM IST (5h30m east of GMT); India, 78°30'E, 17°27'N. Male.
Rāśi lagna: 17°52' Aries in the teacher's software.
Known: he lives in the USA and works in software. His only child, a son, was born on August 22, 2009. Nobody knows when he moved abroad.
Questions: (1) Will he go back to India for good, soon? (2) He has a job but is looking for a change — will it happen?

The teacher reads the second question itself as a sign: looking for a change means some instability or discomfort with the present job.

Get events with the data

• Only one event is known. The teacher asks for more in future:

"When somebody wants to find out something, get a few details. When he came here, when he got married, 2 or 3 events, so that we can verify the time."

• The first aim is to rule out a gross error — a wrong day or month, or day and month swapped. Without events, the data "may or may not be useful".

Calculation model

• The teacher's software is set to "calculation options as recommended by the author" (his Surya Siddhanta-based settings). Its longitudes differ from this site's chart. Here the difference matters: the site puts Mercury near 26° Leo, while every statement in class needs Mercury in the 12°–15° Leo range; Rahu and Mars also fall one amsa away in some vargas. The notes below follow the class. Where the site's chart shows something else, it is said.

D10 Dashamsa — Job Change Analysis

Leeway and setting

• D10 lagna holds for 7m11s backward and 3m19s forward of the corrected time. The time is taken as accurate.
• In the class chart: lagna Virgo; Mars in Gemini (10th); Saturn and Mercury in Sagittarius; Jupiter in Leo; Sun in Scorpio; Moon in Taurus.
• On this site the D10 lagna is Virgo at 10:07:15 PM and Libra at 10:10 PM. The site shows Mercury in Aries and Mars in Cancer.

Does software fit?

• From Lagna: Mars is in the 10th, but the 10th lord Mercury aspects the 10th — a blessing for the 10th. Mercury gives logical, analytical careers: software, computers.
• From Sun: Mercury has no link with the 10th. He is in the 2nd, and he disposes and aspects the 6th lord Mars.

"When a planet owns the house occupied by another planet and aspects it also, it is like a landlord who keeps visiting you now and then. He has firm control on you."

• From Moon: Mercury is the 2nd lord aspecting the 2nd, and the 5th lord joined with the 10th lord Saturn.

Raja Yoga of 5th and 10th

• From Lagna: 10th lord Mercury with 5th lord Saturn.
• From Moon: 5th lord Mercury with 10th lord Saturn — the same two planets give the same yoga.
• From Sun: the two lords are not together, but the 5th lord Jupiter is in the 10th house.
• The 5th is success and recognition, the 10th is the work one does. He will be recognised for his work. This is the chart of a successful career.

Jupiter mahādaśā (running)

• Rahu daśā before it "may or may not have been great". Jupiter daśā should be very good.
• From Lagna: bādhaka lord in the 12th — a good place for a bādhaka lord. From Moon: 8th and 11th lord in the 4th.
• More important: from Lagna and from Moon he is the dispositor of the Saturn–Mercury Raja Yoga and aspects both planets (graha dṛṣṭi, 5th-house aspect from Leo on Sagittarius). As dispositor he can trigger the yoga.
• From Sun he is himself the 5th lord in the 10th.
• He is linked to the 5th and 10th from all three references. This daśā gives recognition, success and good work.
• As 7th lord in the 12th from Lagna, and aspecting the 12th from Moon, he can place the career in a faraway land. A student asks whether the man came in 2006. The teacher guesses he came well before 2006, and says the chaturthamsa is the chart to check that.

Mercury antardaśā (running, till about February 2013)

• For a change, a dusthāna has to be involved — the 8th house or the like.
• From Lagna: the 8th lord is Mars; Mercury disposes him and aspects him.
• From Moon: Mercury is in the 8th house.
• From Sun: Mercury is the 8th lord aspecting the 8th.
• The 8th is triggered from all three references. A change of job is strongly possible in the next 14–15 months.

Mars pratyantardaśā (about January 19 – March 6, 2012)

• A student points out that Mercury's own pratyantara is over. The teacher: at pratyantara level there is a stronger candidate than Mercury.
• From Lagna: 8th lord Mars in the 10th house — "either setback in career or change in the job".
• From Sun: Mars is the lagna lord in the 8th house.
• From Moon: Mars aspects the 8th house (graha dṛṣṭi, 7th-house aspect).
• The change need not be to another company. It can be within the same company. But some disturbance or change is quite possible, because the antardaśā is conducive and the pratyantardaśā even more so.

Annual Tajaka chart for 2011–12 (D10)

• Lagna Pisces. Jupiter is lagna lord and 10th lord, and he is in the 8th house of change.

"Just as we said Mars, the 8th lord in the 10th house in the natal chart, here the 10th lord is in the 8th house. It is the reverse of the same thing. 8th lord in 10th or 10th lord in 8th shows either change in job or a disturbance in the job, like getting laid off."

• A 9th lord is with Jupiter in the 8th: a Raja Yoga of 9th and 10th lords. So the change is not forced on him. It is a fortunate change.
• A student adds: the other 9th lord is with the 8th lord in the 11th house — a sudden gain. The teacher agrees it may be sudden. He also notes a Lakshmi Yoga.
• Good periods in the annual chart: Ketu, and above all Jupiter — January 30 to March 17, 2012. This overlaps the natal Mars pratyantardaśā.

Answer to the second question: a change of job is likely in the year from the August 2011 birthday to the next, most of all from the second half of January to the first half of March 2012. It will be a good change: the natal Jupiter and Mercury periods are tied to Raja Yogas, and the annual chart joins the 9th and 10th lords. He should send out his résumé now; the holiday season will slow the interviews.

• The class does not hear the outcome. Both answers are predictions.
• In passing: his vimsamsa (D20) is interesting — "this person has some spiritual potential". Not analysed.

Second Chart — D10: Career, Change and Remedy

The native is a software consultant; the work involves travel and program management.

In the class chart: D10 lagna Aquarius; Venus in Scorpio (10th); Ketu in Libra (9th); Jupiter in Gemini; Sun and Mercury in Sagittarius; Moon in Capricorn. (The site's chart has Venus in Libra, Ketu in Virgo, Jupiter in Taurus and Moon in Aquarius — each planet sits within a degree of the amsa border.)

Does the career fit?

• Venus in the 10th: micromanagement, managing many details — program management.
• Computers: apart from Mercury, Ketu is the other kāraka for computers and software. The 10th lord is Ketu.
• Venus and Ketu, the 9th and 10th lords, are in parivartana — a powerful Raja Yoga. A successful career, most of all in their daśās. Those daśās are not running, but the yoga still stands.
• From Sun the 10th lord is Mercury. From Moon the 10th lord is Venus and the 10th holds Ketu.
• So Ketu or Mercury touches the 10th from every reference: software. Venus is strong on the 10th from two of the three: program management.

Jupiter mahādaśā

• From Lagna: in the 5th. A functional malefic, but he is the 2nd and 11th lord of money and gains, and he aspects the 11th. The lord of gains aspecting the house of gains: doing well financially.
• From Moon: 3rd and 12th lord aspecting the 12th; he disposes the 9th lord and aspects the 11th lord Ketu.
• From Sun: in the 7th, aspecting the 11th, the 3rd and the lagna.
• The kāma trikoṇa — 3rd, 7th, 11th — is activated from all three references. That explains contract work, travel and material success.

Venus antardaśā (running)

• From Lagna: yogakāraka in the 10th. From Moon: yogakāraka in the 11th.
• From Sun: a functional malefic, but 6th lord in the 12th gives Viparīta Raja Yoga.
• Well placed from all three. Nothing to be concerned about; this is a good time for career.
• Change comes from the dusthānas — the 8th, the 12th, also the 3rd. Venus has no link with the 8th from any reference.
• So: doing better where he is — a better position, more pay, recognition. Not a time for a change.

Sun antardaśā (2014, about nine months)

• From Lagna: 7th lord in the 11th with the 8th lord Mercury.
• From Moon: Sun is himself the 8th lord, in the 12th.
• From Sun: he has a three-quarter aspect on the 8th house.
• A student objects that the 7th lord suits service or consulting. The teacher: look for the link common to the three references — here it is the 8th.
• 2014 is a period of setback or change. Till then, stay where he is.

Confirmation — 2008

• A student asks the native how 2008 was. Answer: he changed jobs that year. Mercury antardaśā was running.
• The student's reasoning, accepted by the teacher: Mercury is with Sun and mirrors him — 8th lord from Lagna, with the 8th lord from Moon, three-quarter aspect on the 8th from Sun. "If Sun can give a change, Mercury can also give a change."
• Both Sun and Mercury are well placed from all references. So even in 2014 the change will be a good one.

Remedy

• Venus is yogakāraka from Lagna and from Chandra lagna in D10. In the rāśi chart he is the 9th lord aspecting the 9th: fortune.
• Venus is Lakshmi. Any prayer of Lakshmi will do — Lakshmi Aṣṭottaram, Lakshmi Aṣṭakam, Śrī Sūktam. He names a Mahālakshmi stotra as the best (the recording does not make clear which of the first two).
• Chanting it once or twice does nothing:

"You want milk to become sweet, you have to put a couple of spoons of sugar, not one molecule of sugar."

• Half an hour to an hour, every day or every Friday.
• In navamsa (Virgo lagna again) Venus is the 9th lord of fortune and dharma in the 2nd house of family. In saptamsa he is again the 9th lord: protection for the children. So Lakshmi protects career, marriage and children together.

A closing question

• A student asks whether Mandi placed with Venus makes a difference. The teacher: since the class moved to refined calculations and the Sudarshana Chakra method, Mandi and Gulika are not being used — they "need some more work".

Lagna, Sun and Moon Together

• Read every house from Lagna, Sun and Moon, as Parashara taught.
• A planet linked to the house in question from all three references can give its result even if placed in the 8th or 12th. Few planets have such a link.
• The link must be made by the planet itself: owning, occupying or aspecting the house, or joining, aspecting or disposing its lord. Someone else aspecting the planet's own sign is not a link.
• When Lagna and Moon are in the same sign, or Lagna and Sun, give that sign more weight.
• If a known event is explained from Sun and Moon but not from Lagna, and the lagna of that varga is close to a border, try the neighbouring lagna. If it then fits from all three, the time has a small error.
