D4 Case (1983): Jupiter(9L+Bhadaka+12L Links From All 3)=Going Abroad 2007; Ketu(12H From Sun+9H From Moon)=Trigger; Venus AD=Returned 2009(Venus=Lagna Lord From Moon+5th Lord From Sun=Motherland Priority Even From 12H); Sun AD=Returned to US 2010(Bhadaka Lord With 9th-12th Lord); KEY: Lagna Lord + 5th Lord = Repatriation, Though Placement in 9H/12H Keeps the Visa Effort Alive

A 1983 chart read in D-4 with the D-4 Vimśottarī daśā, from lagna, Moon and Sun. Jupiter–Ketu took the native to the US in October 2007: Jupiter links to the 9th, the 12th and the bādhaka sthāna from all three references, and Ketu touches the 9th or 12th from each. Jupiter–Venus sent him back to India in April 2009, because Venus is the lagna lord from Moon and the 5th lord from Sun, and those two lords repatriate a man. Venus also sits in the 12th from Moon and the 9th from Sun, so he went home but kept working on the visa. Jupiter–Sun brought him back in August 2010: Sun is the bādhaka lord from Moon and joins the 9th and 12th lord Mercury. The page opens with the birth details, the events the native reported and the method.

Key principle

Being the lagna lord, even though he is in the 12th house, Venus had to give him residence in own country. Even from Sun, even though he is in the 9th house, he is the 5th lord.

Example Charts

Example chart — multi-varga rectification, time as given (1983)
May 12, 1983 · 5:15 AM IST, as the native gave it · Tamil Nadu, India
The chart the class reads first. Rāśi: Aries lagna near 14°, with Sun, Moon and Mercury in Aries. Open D-4: Cancer lagna; Moon and Saturn in Libra, Sun and Mercury in Capricorn, Venus in Virgo, Rāhu in Gemini, Ketu in Sagittarius. Venus is 12th from Moon as its lagna lord and 9th from Sun as its 5th lord. The class has Jupiter in Taurus with Mars (9th lord in the bādhaka sthāna from Cancer); this chart shows Jupiter in Aquarius because the class software placed him about two degrees later.

After adding 3½ minutes the D-4 lagna moves from Cancer to Libra, the sign the Moon already holds. The reading from Moon therefore stands for lagna as well, and D-4 does not decide between the two times. Jupiter shows in Aquarius here; the class has him in Taurus.

Method

  • Each event is read in its own divisional chart with that chart's own Vimśottarī daśā, from lagna, Moon and Sun.
  • The daśā lord must link to the house of the event from all three references. Where lagna and Moon fall in the same sign, that reference carries more weight.
  • The teacher gives exact graha dṛṣṭi percentages from the software's aspect table.

A note on the site's chart

The planetary positions in the class software differ from the site's engine. The site's chart reproduces every lagna the class uses, but several planets sit a degree or more away and land in a different sign of some vargas. The notes below keep the teacher's placements. The site shows these differently:

  • D-4: Jupiter in Aquarius (class: Taurus, with Mars).
  • D-10: Mercury in Capricorn and Saturn in Sagittarius (class: both in Scorpio).
  • D-24: Jupiter in Gemini (class: Leo, in lagna); Rāhu in Libra (class: Sagittarius).
  • D-3: Venus in Gemini (class: Libra).
  • D-6: Rāhu and Ketu in Aries (class: Taurus, with Saturn); Venus in Taurus (class: Gemini).
  • D-30: Mercury in Libra (class: Gemini); Venus in Aquarius (class: Sagittarius).
  • D-9: Moon in Leo (class: Virgo); Mercury in Sagittarius (class: Libra); Jupiter in Scorpio (class: Sagittarius); Rāhu–Ketu in Libra–Aries (class: Scorpio–Taurus).
  • D-7: Rāhu in Gemini (class: Cancer, with the Moon).

D4 Chaturthamsa — Going Abroad and Returning

Leeway

  • At 5:15 the D-4 lagna is Cancer. It holds for 23 minutes backward but only 3 minutes 18 seconds forward. An error of more than about 3½ minutes makes it Libra.
  • D-4 placements used: Moon and Saturn in Libra; Sun and Mercury in Capricorn; Jupiter and Mars in Taurus; Venus in Virgo; Rāhu in Gemini, Ketu in Sagittarius.

Jupiter–Ketu: first trip to the US (October 2007)

Jupiter:

  • From lagna (Cancer): 9th lord in the bādhaka sthāna (Taurus). He aspects the 12th lord Mercury by graha dṛṣṭi.
  • From Moon (Libra): with the 7th lord Mars, aspects the 12th house, aspects the 9th and 12th lord Mercury. "He is not the strongest candidate, but he is linked with all these."
  • From Sun (Capricorn): he is the 12th lord. He aspects the 9th house and the 9th lord Mercury. He aspects the bādhaka sthāna Scorpio and sits with its lord Mars.
  • His aspect on Mercury is 95%.

"Jupiter is connecting all 9th, 12th, and bādhaka sthāna from all the 3 references. So most of the Jupiter daśā he may be abroad."

Ketu:

  • From Sun: in the 12th house.
  • From lagna: aspects the 12th house. The Rāhu–Ketu axis lies on the 12th house from lagna as well as from Sun.
  • From Moon: aspects the 9th house.
  • Ketu links to the 9th or 12th from every reference. His antardaśā gave the first trip.

Jupiter–Venus: back to India (April 2009)

  • From Sun: Venus is in the 9th house, yogakāraka, debilitated. But he is the 5th lord.
  • From Moon: Venus is in the 12th house. But he is the lagna lord.
  • From lagna: bādhaka lord aspecting the 9th house. No issue from lagna.
  • A 9th lord, 12th lord or bādhaka lord has those houses as his agenda. The lagna lord and the 5th lord have the opposite agenda: they repatriate the person to the place of origin. The 1st and 5th are the houses identified with going back.

"Being the lagna lord, even though he is in the 12th house, Venus had to give him residence in own country. Even from Sun, even though he is in the 9th house, he is the 5th lord."

  • The placements still count. Venus is in the 9th from Sun and the 12th from Moon, so this is not a clean return. He went home and kept working on the visa.

Jupiter–Sun: back to the US (August 2010)

  • Venus antardaśā ended on 5 August 2010. He left as soon as Sun antardaśā began.
  • From Sun: with the 9th lord Mercury. Sun dominates the pair because he combusts Mercury.
  • From Moon: Sun is the bādhaka lord, with the 9th and 12th lord Mercury.
  • From lagna: with the 12th lord Mercury in the 7th house of travel.
  • Sun has nothing to do with the lagna or the 5th house, so nothing in him pulls the native home.

What this says about the lagna

  • The Cancer-lagna reading works. A Libra lagna would work as well, because the Moon is in Libra and the reading from Moon already stands. D-4 does not decide the time.
