Example Chart — D10 (Gemini Lagna): Mercury(1L+4L)+Rahu(9L) Raj Yoga in 10H=Investigative Journalism(Rahu=Hidden/Shady Matters); Jupiter(10L in 5H)=Advisor-Kingmaker NOT King; Venus(5L)=Marana Karaka Sthana 6H=Weakened(Political Power Blocked); 5L-6L Mutual Aspect=Duryoga; D12 Surya Lagna Stronger When Its Lord Is Exalted There: Father(Exalted Saturn 9L+10L in 6H)=MLA Politician
The D10 of a man who taught, became an investigative journalist, lost the job and went back to farming, and is now pushed towards politics. Gemini rises with Mercury, Moon and Rahu in the 10th in Pisces: 10th lord Jupiter gives teaching, the Mercury–Rahu Raj Yoga (lagna lord with 9th lord, about 2° apart) gives investigative journalism, the 2nd lord Moon gives agriculture, and Mercury's debilitation explains the fall. For politics, the exalted Sun in the 11th aspects the 10th lord Jupiter in the 5th, but the 5th lord Venus is in the 6th — his Maraṇa Kāraka Sthāna — in a great enemy's sign and in mutual aspect with the 6th lord Mars. Venus pushes the house he owns without the strength to deliver it, so the advice is to be a kingmaker, not a king. The father, an MLA, is then checked in D12 from the 9th from the Sun, the Sun being with exalted Mercury.
Key principle
Rahu shows all the shady things, exposing, uncovering the hidden. So the Mercury-Rahu combination shows that kind of investigative journalism.

Example chart
Rasi lagna: Pisces · D10 lagna: Gemini · D30 lagna: Capricorn · D12 lagna: Sagittarius · D4 lagna: Sagittarius
Background, as the student gives it:
- Taught for some time, then moved into journalism: reporter and editor at a newspaper.
- Wrote well-received articles and editorials and became popular. Did political writing and went towards exposing people.
- Had issues with the management and lost the job. With no other choice he went back to his home town and now works in the fields.
- This happened at the end of Ketu dasha and the start of Venus dasha. The student: "Ketu was a very, very bad period for him."
- His father is an MLA. People visit him every day with their problems and are pushing him towards local politics. He himself is not interested.
- Health: diabetes, feels weak, no strength for the early-morning farm work. Age about 46.
Questions: mainly health, second finances, third career (should he enter politics?).
A note on the site's chart: the lagnas and almost every placement used in class are reproduced. The teacher's software puts the nodes about a degree further on (Rahu near 8½° Taurus, against 7°28' here) and Venus just under 7°30' Capricorn (7°37' here). Both sit on a division border, so three placements differ on the site: in D4 the class has Venus in Capricorn (2nd house) and Ketu in Aquarius (3rd, with Jupiter), the site shows Venus in Aries and Ketu in Scorpio; in D12 the class has Ketu in Aquarius, the site shows Capricorn. The notes follow the class.
D10 Dashamsa — Career Analysis
D10 lagna: Gemini — in career his personality is intellectual, analytical, smart.
Dasha read from D10: Venus
10th house: Pisces, with Mercury, Moon and Rahu
The teacher first tests the chart against the known career before trusting the birth time: "Does a journalistic career make sense, or should we change the time?" It does.
Three careers in the 10th house
- Teaching — Jupiter. The 10th is a Jupiterian sign and Jupiter is the 10th lord. Jupiter gives teaching and law. He did teach.
- Journalism — Mercury. Mercury is the lagna lord (and 4th lord) in the 10th. Rahu is the 9th lord (co-lord of Aquarius). In the Dashamsa longitudes Mercury is at 21°50' and Rahu at 24° — a little over 2° apart. Lagna lord with 9th lord, also 4th lord with 9th lord: a Raj Yoga in the 10th house. A planet giving a good yoga in the 10th shows the career, and for journalism the main planet is Mercury.
- Agriculture — Moon. Moon is the 2nd lord in the 10th. The 2nd is the house of money and one of the artha trikonas, so the 2nd lord in the 10th can also show the career. Moon shows agricultural work.
Mercury is the strongest of them because of the Raj Yoga, though he is debilitated in Pisces.
Why investigative journalism
"Rahu shows all the shady things, exposing, uncovering the hidden. So the Mercury-Rahu combination shows that kind of investigative journalism."
- The teacher says investigative journalism would suit him even better than ordinary journalism. The student confirms he had already done it: political writing and exposing people.
- Because these planets give a Raj Yoga, he can be successful in it.
- But Mercury is debilitated: so in some bad period he had to move away from that career.
Is there political power?
For:
- Sun is exalted in Aries in the 11th house of gains. Planets in the 11th are always good.
- The 10th lord Jupiter is in the 5th house of power (Libra), and the exalted Sun aspects him and the 5th house by graha dṛṣṭi.
Against — the 5th lord Venus:
- Venus is in the 6th house (Scorpio), his Maraṇa Kāraka Sthāna.
"For different planets, there is a different house that is called Marana Karaka Sthana. In that house, he is particularly ineffective. For Jupiter, it is 3rd. For Rahu, it is 9th. Like that, for Venus, it is the 6th house."
- He is in an adhi-śatru rāśi, a sign owned by his great enemy Mars.
- Mars (6th lord, in Taurus in the 12th) and Venus aspect each other by graha dṛṣṭi: a Duryoga between the 5th and 6th lords. This is a mutual aspect, not an exchange of signs.
- Venus is weak: not in a friendly sign, own sign, mūlatrikoṇa or exaltation.
- Jupiter is the priest and Mantri, not the king. Venus too does not show political power.
Verdict: with the 5th lord this weak, do not expect political power. With the 10th lord in the 5th, expect popularity and a following.
A planet pushes the house it owns
Why the pressure to enter politics keeps growing in Venus dasha:
"The house that you are in, those are the resources at your disposal. But the house you own, that is yours. You have to take care of it."
- A planet's agenda is the house it owns; it will do whatever it can to promote it. This holds for all planets except Rahu and Ketu.
- Venus owns the 5th, so in his dasha he pushes for following and power. But his resources are those of the 6th house, where he is ineffective. He is not powerful enough to deliver it.
- So during this dasha the calls to run will become more intense, and the attempt is not likely to succeed. Venus dasha will last a long while yet.
- Venus is also what took him out of journalism and back to the fields, at the end of Ketu dasha and the start of Venus dasha.
The advice
"Instead of trying to be a king, try to be a kingmaker locally who exerts influence over the local political leaders."
- Stay behind the scenes. Use the influence he has over people; do not enter politics himself. Resist the calls.
- If there is any chance of success within Venus dasha, it is in Jupiter antardasha, some years away. Even then the advice is to stay out.
- Sun dasha comes much later. Whatever the other combinations, an exalted Sun in the 11th aspecting the 5th can give political power — "you never know."
D12 Dwadasamsa — Father as Politician, Seen from the Sun
The student mentions that the father is an MLA. The teacher checks it in the D12, the chart of parents.
D12 lagna: Sagittarius. The 9th house is Leo.
Lagna or Sun?
Parasara's special references:
- Mother: 4th from lagna or from Moon.
- Father: 9th from lagna or from Sun. (A student offers the Moon; the teacher corrects — Moon is for the mother.)
- Son: 5th from lagna or from Jupiter. (The recording sounds like "6th".)
- Wife: 7th from lagna or from Venus.
Which is stronger here, lagna or Sūrya lagna? Sūrya lagna, clearly: the Sun is in Virgo with exalted Mercury.
"Surya Lagna contains the exalted lord of the sign. If any lagna has the lagna lord right there, that too in exaltation, it becomes very powerful."
So take the Sun as the reference. The 9th from the Sun is Taurus: read the father with Taurus as lagna.
Father from Taurus
- 10th house, Aquarius: Ketu in a Saturnine sign — routine work, agriculture and the like. But do not judge the career from the 10th house alone.
- 10th lord Saturn is exalted in Libra, the 6th house. For Taurus Saturn is the yogakāraka, lord of the 9th and 10th. A yogakāraka in exaltation gives material success and success over enemies.
- Sun and Mercury in Virgo, the 5th house: Sun is the 4th lord, Mercury the 5th lord and exalted. 4th and 5th lords together is a great Raj Yoga, and it involves the Sun, the planet of power, in the house of power. (The recording says "6th" here; in the chart Virgo is the 5th from Taurus and Libra the 6th.)
Verdict: this is somebody who will be powerful. Whether Prime Minister, MLA or president of a local society cannot be told from the son's chart — the father's own chart would say. But the son's chart shows a successful father. It fits, and it supports the birth time.
