An immigration question for a Taurus-lagna native (born 1981) whose green-card waiver has just been denied. Mercury daśā took him abroad in 2005: from the Pāka lagna, Libra, Mercury is the 9th and 12th lord. The birth time is checked first, because three minutes earlier the D-4 lagna changes from Leo to Taurus; the present trouble and the D-24 for education both keep the given time. In D-4 (Leo lagna) Venus–Saturn gave the move abroad: Venus is in the bādhaka sthāna and Saturn is the bādhaka lord in the 12th from Venus. Sun–Rāhu gave the denial: Rāhu is the 6th lord from the daśā lord. Sun–Jupiter in 2013 is lagna lord daśā with 5th lord antardaśā, the two in mutual quadrants, and that shows going back to the motherland, not a green card. The D-10 (Pisces lagna) has Jupiter, lagna lord and 10th lord, in the 10th in mūlatrikoṇa with Gajakesari yoga, so the career is safe and teaching suits him better.

Key principle

This is not conducive to getting your green card or getting your waiver cleared and celebrating your extended stay in a foreign country. This is a period of going back to the motherland.

Example chart — D-4 relocation and D-10 (1981)
Sep 22, 1981 · 9:30 PM IST · India (81°47'E, 16°59'N)
Lagna 8°17' Taurus. Rāśi: Mercury with the lagna lord Venus in Libra, the Pāka lagna. D-4, Leo lagna: Sun in the 2nd aspected by Saturn and Moon from the 8th; Venus in the 9th (bādhaka sthāna); Rāhu in the 12th; Jupiter, the 5th lord, in Gemini in the 11th aspecting the 5th and in a quadrant from the Sun. D-10, Pisces lagna: Moon and Venus in lagna, Jupiter in Sagittarius in the 10th. D-24, Capricorn lagna: Saturn and exalted Mercury in the 9th. This chart shows Rāhu in the 2nd of D-10, which the teacher calls empty.

The Question and the Praśna

Known events:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science in India, away from his parents' home.
  • Came to the US in mid-2005 for a master's in computer science (2005–2007).
  • First job August 2007: a consultant administering database servers; later a full-time employee.
  • Married 10 April 2010.
  • Green-card waiver filed January 2012 and denied a few days before the class. Less than a year is left of his 6-year window; if the waiver is not approved by then he may have to leave.

Question: will he be able to stay in the US, or go back to India? Also, how will the career be?

Praśna (same evening, 7:42:01 PM):

  • Lagna 7°41' Aquarius. Jupiter's aspect on the lagna is very little, but Jupiter aspects the lagna lord Rāhu.
  • Rāhu is the kāraka of foreign matters and immigration, and he is in Scorpio, a watery sign.
  • In the earlier praśna the lagna lord was Saturn, kāraka of disease, closely conjoined with Mars. Now, taking Rāhu as lord of Aquarius, the lagna lord is the kāraka of the question.
  • Jupiter's aspect on him is a positive sign that the chart will give an answer.

Rāśi Daśā — Mercury and the Pāka Lagna

  • Rāśi Vimshottari: Mercury daśā started in 2005, the year he went abroad.
  • Mercury is vargottama, the 5th lord, dispositor of the 9th lord Saturn, in the 6th house aspecting the 12th, and with the lagna lord Venus. 5th lord with lagna lord gives rāja yoga. A good daśā.
  • Why did it take him abroad? Pāka lagna is Libra (the lagna lord Venus is there). From Libra, Mercury is the 9th and 12th lord, sitting in the Pāka lagna itself.
  • The Pāka lagna is also to be looked at for foreign journeys.

Checking the Birth Time — D-4, D-9, D-24

The prediction rests on D-4, and the D-4 lagna changes if the lagna is below 7°30' — a birth 3 minutes earlier. Navāṁśa changes below 6°40', 6 minutes earlier.

D-9 (marriage, April 2010):

  • D-9 daśā was Mercury–Mercury. With Pisces navāṁśa lagna Mercury is the 7th lord in the 8th, and 7th lord from Venus too. He can give marriage.
  • With the previous lagna, Aquarius, Mercury does not show marriage. So the time is not off by more than 6 minutes.
  • A correct navāṁśa does not prove D-4; D-4 changes faster.

D-4: Leo (given time) or Taurus (3 minutes earlier)?

Going abroad in Venus–Saturn, mid-2005:

Leo lagnaTaurus lagna
Venus3rd and 10th lord, functional malefic, in the 9th — the bādhaka sthānaLagna lord in the 12th
Saturn7th lord in the 8th9th lord aspecting lagna
  • Either explains it. Taurus is a little better.

The present tension, in Sun daśā:

  • Taurus: Sun is the 4th lord in the 5th, aspected by the 9th lord Saturn. Well placed. It shows a better prospect coming. It can never explain a threat to his stay.
  • Leo: Sun is the lagna lord in the 2nd, a māraka sthāna — not well placed. The 6th lord Saturn and the 12th lord Moon aspect him from the 8th house.
  • Śani–Chandra yoga is a bad thing in general: mental worry in that area of life. In the 8th house it means more anxiety, depression, sudden events.
  • Two functional malefics from the 8th aspecting the lagna lord is a duryoga — the opposite of a rāja yoga. The trouble came within a year and a half of Sun daśā starting.
  • Leo explains the present far better. The given time stands.

D-24 (education) as a second check — the teacher does not want to rest the time on one event that may yet reverse.

  • D-10 cannot decide it: the 6°–9° stretch of the lagna gives the same D-10 lagna. A chart whose lagna changes at 7°30' is needed: D-12 (if something is known of the parents) or D-24.
  • D-24 lagna holds from 7°30' to 8°45'. At 8°17' it changes 3 min 1 s earlier or 1 min 51 s later.
  • Capricorn (given time): the 9th house is Virgo with Saturn and exalted Mercury. The 2nd house (master's) is empty; its lord Saturn is with exalted Mercury in Mercury's sign. Mercury dominates both. Computer science at both levels fits.
  • Sagittarius (earlier): the 9th is empty and its lord Sun is in Scorpio in the 12th — physics, management, administration, political studies. A master's in computer science is possible through the 2nd; a bachelor's is not explained.
  • The time is kept as given in both D-24 and D-4. No rectification.

D-4 — Going Abroad, the Denial, Going Back

D-4 lagna Leo. Sun in Virgo (2nd); Venus in Aries (9th); Saturn and Moon in Pisces (8th); Jupiter in Gemini (11th); Rāhu in Cancer (12th); Mars and Ketu in Capricorn (6th).

Venus–Saturn, mid-2005 — went abroad:

  • Venus is in the 9th house, which is the bādhaka sthāna for Leo.
  • Saturn is the 7th lord. From the daśā lord Venus he is the bādhaka lord placed in the 12th.

Sun–Rāhu, from March 2012 — the waiver denied:

  • Sun daśā: the afflicted lagna lord of 3c.
  • Rāhu is the 7th lord in the 12th: the mind is fixed on staying abroad for long, and he is working for it.
  • From the daśā lord Sun, Rāhu is the 6th lord in the 11th. 6th-house results: litigation, quarrels over his stay. It does not show much success.

Sun–Jupiter, January/February to November 2013 — the 6-year window expires in it:

  • Jupiter is the 5th lord and aspects the 5th house. He is also the 8th lord — a change.
  • This is lagna lord daśā and 5th lord antardaśā, and the two are in mutual quadrants.
  • The lagna lord is conducive to going back to the motherland, not to staying abroad.
  • The only factor for abroad: from the daśā lord, Jupiter is the 7th lord. Nothing else shows a green card or a more permanent stay.

"This is not conducive to getting your green card or getting your waiver cleared and celebrating your extended stay in a foreign country. This is a period of going back to the motherland."

  • A student suggests Jupiter may bring a good lawyer once Rāhu's confusion ends. The teacher allows it as a possibility but does not change the reading.
  • From Sun, Jupiter is a friend and sits in a quadrant from the lagna lord. So it need not come with sadness. He may get a good opportunity and move back to India happily.

On predicting what the person does not want:

  • Astrologers identify with the person, look for a way to get the result he wants, convince themselves, and then tell him.
  • Read without attachment, Sun–Jupiter does not show the foreign stay being made permanent. It shows going back.

D-10 — Career

D-10 lagna is Pisces. Moon and Venus in lagna; Jupiter in Sagittarius in the 10th; Sun in Gemini; Mars in Virgo; Mercury and Saturn in Libra.

Why computers? Read the chart statically first — the 2nd, 6th and 10th:

  • The 2nd house is empty. Its lord Mars is in a Mercurian sign and aspects it. Mercury aspects it too.
  • The 6th is empty. Its lord Sun is in Gemini, again a Mercurian sign.
  • The 10th has Jupiter, very strong. The teacher would have expected a career of Jupiter. So far the career is Mercury's: database administration, computer science.

The site's chart shows Rāhu in the 2nd house (Aries) of D-10; the teacher calls the 2nd empty.

Daśā — Jupiter, the 10th lord, is in the 10th, so the teacher uses the conditional daśā for that case (the name is garbled on the recording; the sequence he reads, Sun → Moon → Mars, is that of Chaturaśīti-sama daśā):

  • The database job started in Sun daśā.
  • Moon daśā is running. Moon is the 5th lord in lagna — a very good daśā for career. No setbacks to worry about.
  • Moon–Jupiter, 2014–2016: an alternative career is possible. Jupiter shows teacher or lawyer; in the 10th he can show teaching computer science, database or network administration at institutes or universities in India. A change of line is possible then.
  • Moon–Venus, 2016–17: be a little careful. Venus is the 8th lord — a setback is possible. But Moon–Venus in lagna is a fortunate combination, so unexpected gains are possible too.
  • Mars daśā after Moon is also good. The daśās are good for a couple of decades.

Strength of the chart:

  • Jupiter is lagna lord and 10th lord, in the 10th, in mūlatrikoṇa.
  • Lagna holds Moon and Venus; Moon in lagna and Jupiter in the 10th form Gajakesari yoga.
  • There are some negative combinations, but overall a powerful D-10. He will be successful in any line.

"If you go into a career indicated by such a strong planet, you are more likely to do well and also be happy."

  • Teaching is a better profession for him than database administration.

Verdict and Remedy

  • Immigration does not look good. He may have to go back when Sun–Jupiter comes in D-4 in 2013.
  • Leaving the US is not the end of the career. The D-10 daśās are set for two decades.
  • Remedy: Mars is the 12th lord in the rāśi chart. In D-4 he is the 9th lord, exalted, with Ketu and aspected by Rāhu, and he aspects the 12th house. So worship of Subrahmaṇya — suggested from the static charts, without looking at daśās.
  • The teacher is not comfortable with the idea that a remedy will keep him in the US. His feeling: he will go back.
