Example Chart (1980): D10 Aquarius Lagna=Mars(10L in 11H+Raj Yoga)=Career Recognition; D9 Virgo Lagna=Jupiter+Mercury Raj Yoga(1L+7L in 10H); BUT Mars=8L+Moon+Rahu in 8H=Marriage Anxiety (From Multiple References); Antardasha: Ketu(Trine to 7L+Friendly Sign)=Best Marriage Candidate; Venus(9L+7L From Moon)=Also Candidate; 8L Mahadasha Rule
A woman born in 1980 with the lagna at 29°46' Virgo is doing very well as a software engineer but her marriage keeps falling through. The D-10 lagna is Aquarius or Libra depending on one minute of birth time; the running D-10 Mars daśā settles it, because from Aquarius Mars is the 10th lord in the 11th in mutual aspect with the 5th lord Mercury in own sign, and he touches the 10th and 5th from Sun and Moon too. In the Navāṁśa the same Mars is the 8th lord, tied to the 8th house from lagna, Sun and Moon and barely to the 7th, with Moon and Rāhu sitting in the 8th: anxiety and tension, not a smooth marriage, and the Rāhu daśā after it is no better. The page then weighs the antardaśā lords — Mercury, Ketu (7th from Moon, in trine to both 7th lords, taking the trinal aspect some versions of BPHS give the nodes) and Venus — and checks the Tājaka annual chart, which points to January–February 2012.
Key principle
So there is an influence of the 8th house and not the 7th house. Mars is actually a main planet for the 8th house rather than the 7th house in this chart, and that shows anxiety and tensions rather than getting married and having a nice and smooth marriage.
Example Chart
D10 Dasamsa — Borderline Lagna Settled by Career
The case: Woman born May 21, 1980, 4:21 PM IST. Software engineer, successful and recognised at work. Not married; two matches came close after April 2011 and fell through.
The lagna is on the border:
- Rāśi lagna is 29°46' Virgo. If the time is off by about one minute it becomes Libra.
- In an even sign daśāṁśa counting starts from the 9th sign. The last daśāṁśa of Virgo is Aquarius. In an odd sign it starts from the sign itself, so the first daśāṁśa of Libra is Libra.
- So the D-10 lagna is Aquarius with the given time and jumps to Libra if the time is a minute late.
- Method: "Let us consider both Aquarius and Libra and see what makes sense." The known fact is a good career.
The D-10 Viṁśottarī daśā running is Mars, and it is giving recognition and success.
From Aquarius lagna:
- Mars is the 10th lord, placed in the 11th.
- Mars aspects Mercury, the 5th lord in own sign Gemini, by his 7th aspect (graha dṛṣṭi). Mercury aspects him back.
- 10th lord and 5th lord in mutual 7th (sama-saptaka) = Rāja Yoga.
- She is an engineer; Mars can show engineering.
From Sun:
- Mars is the 9th lord placed in the 10th.
- Mercury (4th and 7th lord from Sun) aspects that 10th house. 9th lord with a kendra lord = Rāja Yoga.
From Moon:
- The 10th from Moon is Taurus. No planet aspects it; the teacher says its lord Venus is aspected by Mars.
- Mars is the yogakāraka from Leo and sits in the 5th from Moon.
The 5th house (recognition) from all three:
- From lagna Mars aspects the 5th (and the 6th). From Moon he is in the 5th. From Sun he aspects the 5th.
"Mars is having an influence on the 5th house of recognition as well as the 10th house of work. So Mars daśā giving all this success makes very good sense."
Conclusion: Aquarius D-10 lagna is correct, so the birth time stands. That also fixes the Navāṁśa lagna as Virgo; with the later time it would have been Libra.
Cast-chart note: a modern-ephemeris chart gives the same D-10 lagna, Sun, Mars and Mercury. It puts the D-10 Moon in Virgo, not Leo, and does not show a Mars aspect on Venus.
D9 Navamsa — Marriage Analysis
D-9 lagna: Virgo. The D-9 Viṁśottarī daśā was Moon until 2007 and is Mars until 2014. The antardaśā running is Mercury.
The blessing in the chart:
- Lagna lord Mercury is in own sign in the 10th, with the 7th lord Jupiter.
- Lagna lord and 7th lord together = Rāja Yoga, and the lagna lord is very strong.
The weakness:
- Moon and Rāhu are in the 8th house (Aries).
- Moon is in maraṇa kāraka sthāna and joined by Rāhu.
- Moon daśā (until 2007): "Moon in the 8th house is unlikely to give marriage."
Mars Mahādaśā (2007–2014) — Mars is the 8th lord, debilitated in Cancer:
- The debility of an 8th lord is functionally good. But that does not give him a link with the 7th.
- 7th from lagna: Mars does not aspect the 7th house or the 7th lord.
- 7th from Sun (Virgo): Mars does not aspect it or its lord. He only has argalā on it. "There is some influence, but it is not really that strong."
- 7th from Moon (Libra): Mars aspects it, and its lord Venus is in a sign of Mars. This is his only link with the 7th.
Mars and the 8th house:
- 8th from lagna (Aries) is owned by Mars.
- 8th from Moon (Scorpio) is owned by Mars.
- 8th from Sun (Libra) is aspected by Mars, and its lord is in a sign of Mars.
"So there is an influence of the 8th house and not the 7th house. Mars is actually a main planet for the 8th house rather than the 7th house in this chart. And that shows anxiety and tensions rather than getting married and having a nice and smooth marriage."
- The 8th is disappointment, frustration, anxiety — "which is what is there right now".
- Contrast with D-10: there Mars had a role in the 10th and the 5th from all three references, so the same Mars daśā is excellent for career and poor for marriage.
- A student points to the Moon–Mars exchange (Moon in Aries, Mars in Cancer). The teacher: ignore the parivartana here.
Mahādaśā first, antardaśā second (a student asks why not go straight to the antardaśā):
- If the Mahādaśā lord shows a reasonable indication, the antardaśā narrows the time.
- If the Mahādaśā lord shows nothing at all, the whole Mahādaśā may not give the event — or strong remedies are needed.
The next daśā is no better:
- Rāhu (after 2014) does not aspect the 7th house or 7th lord from lagna or from Sun. From Moon he is in the 1st, so he aspects the 7th. That is all.
- "Even if this person gets married, the marriage will not be so smooth." The 8th house shows anxiety and tension inside the marriage too, and it can show divorce.
- This lasts until Jupiter daśā comes, in 2031.
- Strong remedies are needed both to get married and to keep the marriage.
- The student adds that she is strongly opinionated; the teacher agrees this can set off the 8th-house tension.
Cast-chart note: a modern-ephemeris chart gives the same D-9 lagna, Moon, Rāhu, Ketu, Mars, Jupiter and Sun. It puts Mercury in Taurus (9th), not Gemini, and Venus in Sagittarius, not in a sign of Mars.
Antardasha Analysis for Marriage Potential
The Mahādaśā lord Mars is not conducive. The question is which antardaśā lord can still give marriage with the help of remedies.
Mercury antardaśā (running, nearly over):
- Lagna lord, with the 7th lord from lagna.
- 7th lord from Sun (7th from Sun is Virgo).
- No link with the 7th from Moon.
- "Mercury has some chance, but it is too short." This is probably what brought the matches close this year.
Ketu antardaśā (next):
- Ketu is in the 7th from Moon.
- He has nothing direct to do with the 7th from lagna or from Sun. But he is in a trine from Jupiter (7th lord from lagna) and Mercury (7th lord from Sun).
- "Some people say Ketu has no aspect, but there are versions of BPHS where Rāhu and Ketu are both given the 7th aspect and the trinal aspect." Taken that way, Ketu aspects both 7th lords.
- "Planets in mutual trines are conducive to each other."
- Ketu is in an adhimitra rāśi and is very powerful in this chart.
- The 2nd house (family) from all three: Ketu is in the 2nd from lagna; he is the dispositor of Venus, the 2nd lord from Moon; he aspects the 2nd from Sun.
"So there is a good chance that Ketu itself will give marriage. My feeling is the next few months are actually conducive."
Venus antardaśā (after Ketu):
- 7th lord from Moon, and the kāraka.
- 9th lord from lagna; in the 9th from Sun.
- He has no link with the 7th from lagna or Sun, but he has the 9th and he is the kāraka. "So he can give marriage. But my feeling is Ketu may actually be the one."
Sun antardaśā: a student suggests Sun. The teacher: that is far into the future; Ketu has a chance.
The catch: "The antardaśā lord is showing marriage, but the Mahādaśā lord is not showing marriage. So some strong remedies are needed."
Tajaka Annual Chart 2011–12 — Is the Year Strong Enough?
The teacher checks the 2011 Tājaka annual chart, using its Navāṁśa. He is not trying to pick the month from it. "What I want to do is: is there a chance? Is the chart reasonably strong?"
Annual Navāṁśa:
- The 7th lord Mercury is in the 11th house, the house of fructification of desires, in an adhimitra rāśi (a sign of Venus). The 7th lord is very strong.
- The lagna lord Jupiter is in the 6th — not well placed.
- The 5th lord Mars is in the 9th — very well placed.
- Mars and Mercury show the potential. The Mars period of the year is running now, and this is when the talks are going on.
Annual Rāśi: the 7th lord, the lagna lord and the 9th lord are all in the 7th house.
Jupiter's period:
- Sun and Moon are together in the annual Navāṁśa, so they dominate. Jupiter is the lagna lord from Sun and Moon as well as from lagna.
- From Sun and Moon, Jupiter is in the 3rd — a kāma trikoṇa — and aspects the 7th.
- "So Jupiter can give marriage."
Result: January 2012 onwards makes better sense. Māgha māsa falls at the end of January and in February and has good muhūrtas. "Next year Māgha māsa is something worth shooting for. But it is not a done case, because the Mahādaśā itself is not conducive."
