Case Study — Example Chart (House Purchase Query)

The native is the husband of a student, who is present and answers the questions.

The question

• He sold his house on 15 December 2009. The family now lives in an apartment.
• He plans to buy a house in 2010. When in the year is a good time?

Which daśā

• The 10th lord from lagna (Venus) is in the 10th, so Caturaśīti-sama daśā applies. Started from lagna it shows Venus–Moon, about to become Venus–Mars.
• The class uses Moon-based Viṁśottarī, which is running Saturn–Saturn.
• The chart had never been rectified. The caturthāṁśa lagna has about six minutes of leeway, so D-4 is safe either way.

Rectification from the marriage (27 November 1987)

• Viṁśottarī: Rāhu–Venus.
• Rāhu in navāṁśa: 9th lord, lord of the Upapada (longitude-based), in the lagna sign Gemini (by bhāva he falls in the 12th), aspecting the 7th. Rāhu daśā can give marriage.
• Venus in navāṁśa: 5th lord, in own sign Taurus, right on the border of the 11th and 12th bhāvas. To give marriage he should be in the 11th, the house of desires fulfilled. So the lagna is at the given time or a little later, not earlier.
• Tithi Praveśa of 1987 with the 10:20 time: the Tithi Aṣṭottarī daśā on the wedding day is Mercury. Mercury is 5th and 8th lord in the 3rd (or 2nd) with the 2nd and 11th lord. No case for marriage.
• Add 2 min 35 s → 10:22:35. Now in that year's Tithi Praveśa chart Mercury is the Horā lord, and in its navāṁśa he is the 7th lord, in the 2nd house of family, in Aries with lagna lord Jupiter. A clear case for marriage.
• The class adopts 10:22:35. The change does not alter the natal D-4. It does alter the Tithi Praveśa charts.

House Sale Analysis (December 2009)

D-4 lagna is Scorpio. Bhāvas are reckoned with the lagna degree as the start of the house.

• Saturn–Saturn. Saturn is the 4th lord (Aquarius) in the 12th house (Libra). The lord of the house is in the house of loss.
• Taking the 4th house as lagna, its lord sits in the bādhakasthāna. Instability of residence in Saturn daśā.
• Why a sale and not a loss: Saturn is in the 1st house from A11. The student says the sale was at a loss; the teacher answers that they still received money. Without the A11 link, the 4th lord in the 12th would only mean being displaced or always away from home.
• Mercury pratyantardaśā was running on the day. Mercury is the 8th lord: it happened suddenly, and the 8th lord brings instability — a change of lifestyle, from house to apartment.

House Purchase Analysis (2010)

Saturn is still the 4th lord. His placement is the 12th, but his agenda is to give a house. The daśā and antardaśā can give it; the pratyantardaśā and Tithi Praveśa must fix the date. After Mercury came Ketu; Venus is running at the time of the class; Sun and Moon fill the rest of the year.

Venus pratyantardaśā

• 7th and 12th lord. The 7th lord: dealing with other people, going to see houses.
• At 2° Scorpio, before the lagna degree, so in the 12th house. The 12th can be expenditure as investment.
• Lord of A4, the tangible house.
• Also lord of the 6th from A4 (a student's point): a loan taken for the property.
• So a purchase in Venus is possible.

Sun pratyantardaśā

• In the 8th house from lagna (19°22′ Gemini in D-4).
• A4 is at the end of Taurus and Sun in the middle of Gemini. In the D-4 bhāva chart drawn from A4, Sun is in the 1st house: he is in A4. From A4 he is the 4th lord, a quadrant lord, in the 1st.
• The 8th from lagna: adjusting to a new place of residence. The 8th lord Mercury moved him from house to apartment; Sun in the 8th can move him again. Venus is less likely to give that kind of change.
• A loan needs a link with A6. Sun owns A6.

"Sun owns the A6 and he is in the A4, the 1st house from A4, and he is in the 8th house."

"In my judgment, Sun is a better candidate to give a house — take a loan and move into a house."

• Sun pratyantardaśā: 7 September – 31 October 2010. There is a chance before that too; the maximum chance is here.

Tithi Pravesh (TP) 2010 Confirmation

TP 2010: 10 July 2010, 17:52:47 IST. Sagittarius lagna; D-4 lagna Pisces.

• Mercury is named as ruler of the year. (In the cast chart he is the Horā lord; the weekday is Saturday.) In rāśi he is 7th and 10th lord, in Cancer, the 8th sign; by bhāva he falls in the 7th.
• Tithi Aṣṭottarī daśā over September–October 2010: Moon, then Mars.

Moon in the TP D-4

• Owns A6: a big loan can come in Moon daśā.
• In the 4th house of residence and comfort. In the natal chart the 4th lord was in the 12th; here the kāraka of comfort sits in the house of comfort. Moving into a new house and feeling good about it.
• In Gemini with Jupiter and Rāhu, though some degrees apart. Jupiter is lagna lord and A4 lord. Moon is 5th lord: Rāja Yoga with the lagna lord. Rāhu is 12th lord: change, displacement.
• 5th lord = pūrva-puṇya: "I am lucky, I found a new house". Had the 8th lord been involved, it would be sudden and tense.
• Gajakesarī Yoga, though Rāhu mars it.
• A4 is at 22° Pisces; Moon is at 25° Gemini, in the 4th from A4. The 4th has argalā. Moon has argalā on A4.

"He is not only with the A4 lord, but he has argalā on A4 and he is in the 4th house. So my feeling is Moon daśā will give it."

Conclusion: the natal Sun pratyantardaśā and the TP Moon daśā tally. September–October 2010; perhaps the second half of September, in Moon–Jupiter or Moon–Rāhu. Moon–Moon is also possible. The class was held before the event, so the result is not on the recording.

Rāja Yoga with the two planets in different houses

A student asks which house such a yoga belongs to. The teacher: a yoga between the 9th and 10th lords involves both dharma and karma. Just as the houses owned differ, the houses occupied can differ, and there is still synergy between them. He prefers to comment on an example when one comes up.

The AK of this chart, read by the day's verses

Saturn is the Ātmakāraka. Only the sign occupied by the AK is read, since houses from the AK have not been taught yet.

• D-9, Virgo. The fatness result belongs to rāśi or D-30, not here. Navāṁśa is marriage: a grounded, solid relationship, with good communication (Mercury's sign).
• D-30, Scorpio. Snakes, insects, viruses. A Martian sign: much fire in the body, pitta problems. The I-ness under Mars: inbuilt anger, short temper.
• Jñātikāraka in D-30. Jñātikāraka shows vulnerability, so he matters in D-30. Here he is Sun (8 cara kārakas), exalted in Aries — a Martian sign again. Anger and irritability, or else pitta. If pitta, avoid spicy food and eat mild food.
• D-10, Gemini — AK and Amātyakāraka (Jupiter) both there. Not skin disease in this chart. The I-ness in the sphere of work is intellectual, logical, communicative. This is his nature at work, not his job; the job is seen from the 10th house.
• D-20. With Saturn as the reference, Sun, Moon and Jupiter fall in the 12th house from the AK, and the teacher remarks that the 12th is very strong. The recording ends here, mid-sentence.

The three kārakas as he states them: AK = the overall I-ness; Amātyakāraka = the sense of purpose that counsels the I-ness; Jñātikāraka = the vulnerability.

"In each area of life, your basic nature is coloured by, conditioned by some qualities. The conditioning of your I-ness in this area of life is seen by influences on the Ātmakāraka in that particular divisional chart."
